Exteroception Stimulation Therapy

« Back to Glossary Index

Exteroceptive stimulation therapy is often used to help individuals with sensory processing disorders, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders, in combination with sensory integration therapy (SIT) and exposure therapy, among others. Exposure to nature reduces stress and anxiety levels, while listening to calming music or engaging in relaxing activities can positively affect mood and mental states. Positive sensory stimuli includes: visual (colors, shapes, movement), auditory (sounds, music, speech), tactile (temperature, pressure, texture), smell (scents, odors), and tastes (flavors).
