- Goal-oriented behavior guides actions to desired outcomes by influencing strategies and action steps, like studying harder for a test to do well.
- Adaptability for when expectations are not met, to adjust and re-evaluate. Based on a disappointing social interaction, anticipate how another might react in a situation, influencing future behavior.
- Motivation and engagement to complete a task can be fueled by positive expectations, while negative expectations can lead to discouragement or procrastination.
- Unrealistic expectations (overly optimistic or pessimistic) leads to disappointment or frustration when reality does not align. Difficulty adjusting expectations to adapt when situations change.
- Cognitive biases in having preconceived notions or stereotypes influences expectations and causes inaccurate perceptions.
