Electric Potential

An electric potential is the voltage difference across a neuron’s cell membrane—the electrical charge distribution inside-to-outside of the neuron — a crucial part of transmitting nerve impulses. It’s often measured in millivolts (mV) and can be observed as changes in potential during events like an action potential. Also see Resting Potential
