Egomaniac

« Back to Glossary Index

An egomaniac is a person with an extreme, obsessive self-preoccupation, which some believe is another, more informal term for grandiose narcissism. It includes a sense of self-importance, a belief in their own superiority, an excessive need for admiration and attention, arrogance, and a lack of empathy for others. They can be consumed by fantasies of unlimited success or power. They are willing to exploit others to achieve their goals. Underlying factors include insecurity and a fragile self-image. Also see Egolatry
