Different theories are generally categorized into either descriptive forms (describing that people do act in self-interest) or normative forms (prescribing that they should). Other egoism definitions emphasize action according to one’s will rather than self-interest — seen by some in the psychiatric community as a truer sense of egoism. Egoism: Egoism is a philosophical concept positing that self-interest is the ultimate guide to all actions and behaviors. Can manifest as extreme self-centeredness, where one prioritizes their own needs, but doesn’t necessarily involve boasting. Used to describe a philosophical stance or ethical theory about the role of self-interest in morality and motivation.
