Derealization:
« Back to Glossary IndexDerealization is characterized by a diminished feeling of reality — feeling detached from one’s surroundings (the world appears foggy, blurry, unreal, lifeless, or objects seem distorted in shape/size; time may feel slowed down or sped up). This altered perception or understanding of external reality, seeming strange or unreal (“This can’t be happening”), is often due to trauma or stress. It may occur as a feature of schizophrenia or dissociation. Also see Depersonalization and Depersonalization/ Derealization Disorder (DPDR)
