Cortisol

« Back to Glossary Index

Cortisol is a steroid hormone produced by the adrenal glands (on top of kidneys) that helps the body respond to stress. It has many jobs: regulating blood sugar (increasing amount of glucose in the bloodstream), fighting infections (helping to repair tissues), and reducing inflammation (slowing down nonessential functions during fight-or-flight response/FFR).
