Controlled Motivation
« Back to Glossary IndexControlled motivation is a type of extrinsic motivation when we feel overall less autonomy in our actions. For example, we study hard for a good grade because we’re afraid of parental disappointment. The motivating factor is not getting a reward or feeling personal satisfaction, but a desire to avoid a negative consequence. Also see self-determination theory (when we act voluntarily and by choice, based on our own interests and values)
