Consummatory Behavior
« Back to Glossary IndexConsummatory behavior is the final, stereotypical (characteristic) action that directly satisfies a drive or need, like eating once you’ve found food or having sex once you’ve found a partner. In contrast with the more flexible appetitive behavior (searching or approaching a desirable stimulus), consummatory behaviors tend to be consistent (per species) and driven to fulfill a biological need.
