Berdache

Berdache is a term originally used by the Spanish and French to describe male transvestites or the passive partner in male sex acts. It was later applied by anthropologists to American Indigenous individuals who took on the opposite sex’s role, dress, and social status. See also Two-Spirit and Gender Nonconforming
