Avoidance Behavior:
« Back to Glossary IndexAvoidance behavior is the underlying psychological drive or desire to stay away from situations or stimuli that trigger anxiety or discomfort, often leading to a complete avoidance of the feared thing. Avoidance behavior is the “why” behind behavioral avoidance. It’s a powerful force distracting us from negative emotions, expectations, potential threats, or situations—like avoiding new job or career opportunities, relationships, social situations, recreational activities, and family get-togethers. Avoidance behavior gives the appearance of control, but long-term worsens issues. Also see Minority Stress and Safety Behavior
