Authenticity Spectrum:
« Back to Glossary IndexAn authenticity spectrum represents the degree to which we express our true selves. On one end, we fully embrace our genuine identity (positive). On the other end, we show a high degree of conformity or masking to fit in with societal expectations (negative). Where we fall depends on the social situation, the people we’re with, and our comfort level in expressing ourselves. The spectrum can include individuals who are authentically manipulative or deceitful. Also see Authenticity and Self-Identity Spectrum. Ways it’s useful:
- Workplace encourages authenticity with close colleagues, is more professional in formal settings.
- Social media allows sharing personal lives or curating online image to project a specific persona.
- Personal growth reflects areas to be more authentic in interactions with others.
