Auditory Processing Disorder (APD):

« Back to Glossary Index

Auditory processing disorder (APD), also called central auditory processing disorder (CAPD), is hearing loss making it hard to understand speech, not caused by hearing loss but something affecting the brain part that processes hearing. APD can be comorbid with other conditions that affect how well a person understands what they hear, such as ADHD or autism, as well as other types of hearing loss. It has no cure, but treatments can improve hearing.
