Attention Schema Theory (AST):
« Back to Glossary IndexAttention schema theory (AST), developed by neuroscientist Michael Graziano, Princeton University, is the brain’s simplified internal model of attention (attention schema) to orient focus to items or tasks. AST proposes the brain constructs a simplified model of attention to help monitor/control attention and predict change. The brain’s efficient but imperfect model shows how awareness and attention are similar but can sometimes dissociate, as in ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
