Anticonvulsants

Anticonvulsants (valproate, carbamazepine) — which treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders — work effectively “off-label” as mood stabilizers. Neurologically, they work like lithium and SGAs and are effective at treating mania. Anticonvulsants can also treat depression, but less successfully.
