Anaclitic Object-Choice or Anaclitic Love

Anaclitic object-choice or anaclitic love, coined by Freud, is selecting a love object (person) who resemble one’s parents, particularly the mother, and can fulfill their unmet needs from childhood — for care, protection, and nurturing. This contrasts with narcissistic object-choice, where individuals choose partners who resemble themselves or their idealized self-image.
