Serotonin and Norepinephrine Reuptake Inhibitors (SNRIs): SNRIs are a class of antidepressant effective for treating depression, anxiety, and long-term (chronic) pain, especially nerve pain — especially when chronic pain causes depression. SNRIs affect neurotransmitters effecting changes in brain chemistry and communication in brain nerve cell circuitry regulating mood. SNRIs block the reabsorption (reuptake) of serotonin and norepinephrine. Approved SNRIs:
- Desvenlafaxine (Pristiq)
- Duloxetine (Cymbalta)
- Levomilnacipran (Fetzima)
- Venlafaxine (Effexor XR)
