Neurotype:

« Back to Glossary Index

A neurotype is our brain type, or how our brain develops, learns, and communicates — as basic to our identity as are race, gender, or sexuality. Neurotypical (NT) develops and functions similarly to others of the same age. Neuroatypical or neurodivergent (ND) types (ADHD, autism, and many other conditions) are characterized by challenges with cognitive control affecting sensory systems, attention, information processing, conflict processing, motor ability, and relationships. Understanding our neurotypes shows strengths, support needs, and insights to how we process the world.
