Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID)
Dissociative identity disorder (DID) (previously known as multiple or split personality disorder) is another complex dissociative condition caused by severe trauma in early childhood (repetitive physical, sexual, or emotional abuse). It involves “switching” to other identities, as if two or more people live inside one’s head or have other identities — with their own name and personal history — with differences in how familiar each identity is with the others. DID usually includes bouts of amnesia and times of confused wandering.
