Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), a form of cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), is an evidence-based treatment (EBT) for mood disorders, suicidal ideation, and personality disorders and is highly effective in changing behavioral patterns such as self-harm and substance use. DBT balances acceptance of an individual in real time with intensive efforts to make positive change, by increasing adaptability and decreasing unhelpful or destructive behavior. DBT is the therapy of choice for borderline personality disorder (BPD) by teaching skills to regulate emotions and engage in healthy relationships.
