Default Mode Network (DMN)
Default Mode Network (DMN) is one of many brain networks connecting brain regions showing high activity at rest and decreased activity engaged in demanding tasks requiring focus. DMN involves internally directed cognition (self-reflection, reminiscing, planning, daydreaming, mind-wandering, memory retrieval). Brain regions are the medial prefrontal cortex, posterior cingulate cortex, and angular gyrus. Altered DMN activity has been linked to depression, anxiety, and schizophrenia, and is implicated in attention difficulties seen in both ADHD and autism. Research also suggesting increased local efficiency for grandiose narcissism (more self-reflection) and increased oxidative stress in vulnerable narcissism
